Eagle of the Ninth Movie in 2010
Update: the movie has been retitled The Eagle
Director Kevin Macdonald has been tackling the movie adaptation of the Eagle of the Ninth, the 1954 historical adventure novel written by Rosemary Sutcliffe. The story takes place in the second century AD and revolves around a young Roman officer's search to discover the truth about the disappearance of his father's legion in the north of Britain. It's based on the legend of the Ninth Legion. The film is starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Mark Strong and Denis O'Hare.
Here's a first look at Channing Tatum in the movie Eagle of the Ninth:
Plot:
"In 140 AD, a young Roman centurion attempts to uncover the truth about the disappearance of his father's legion—the Ninth—in the north of Britain twenty years previously. The centurion, Marcus Aquila (Channing Tatum), travels with a British slave, Esca (Jamie Bell), beyond Hadrian's Wall into Caledonia, where he must confront the tribes to recover the legion's standard and restore his father's reputation."
Movie Cast
- Channing Tatum as centurion Marcus Aquila
- Jamie Bell as Esca, a British slave
- Donald Sutherland as Aquila, Marcus' uncle who is living retired in Britain
- Mark Strong as Guern, an ex-soldier who holds crucial information about the Ninth
I first thought that The Eagle of the Ninth would be a real action under the guise of a sword and sandal film. But it looks like this movie is rather putting the focus on drama and adventure.According to the Times, the theme of the Eagle of the Ninth movie will be the clash of cultures between the might of the Rome and a small tribe with its own customs and traditions. The son of the legion’s commander, who sets out to retrieve the eagle and solve the mystery of what happened, comes to realise that his imperial view of the world has to be reconciled with the beliefs and traditions of other people.
Well, I still wait with impatience for the movie Eagle of the Ninth. And I wonder how it will compare against Neil Marshall's Centurion!
